Give Praise Records basically started out as being a zine. I would always go to zine festivals and shows in Boston and Providence. I would table and bring all of my zines, some pins and some other fun stuff that I would have to either sell and/or hand-out.
I have done a ton of zines in the past, personal zines, music zines, and tea zines all about drinking and growing your own tea leaves. I will probably always end up doing a zine, since physical zines are (what I think) a mainstay in the punk scene and they are crucial to continuing the scene. You learn about music, new bands, new labels, etc. Online zines are really cool and I read all of those as well, but it’s always radical to see a new printed zine.
CRUCIAL SESSION #1 and #2 are out now and I basically included articles and stories from previous zines that I did. Issue #1 is all about a old miniature golf course we turned into a skate spot and some ideas and advice on how to run a record label out of your car. Issue #2 has a old interview with GEORGE HARRISON from Russia, a massive powerviolence / grind band that was fairly unknown. I actually met FRANK CASTLE GONNA BREAK YOUR NECK from GEORGE HARRISON and they ended up being the first official 7″ on Give Praise Records. This also includes an interview with RATOS DE PORAO – the Brazilian crossover thrash masters!!! We talk about covid and their brand new album.
